A few weeks back I found 3/4 length sleeve tees on clearance at local store & thought they would be perfect for a spring tee.
Who knew spring would come so early this year???
I call this tee the Car Wash Tee... it reminds me of automated brushes that clean the sides of your car.
I bet if I did a little shimmy, it would look like it too ;) HA HA
Start with 2 tees, leave 1 as is & cut there other into the below rectangle shapes.
I actually doubled the layers of the front pieces for a fuller look.
For the center of the shirt cut 6 pieces 3.5"W x 6.5"L
For the sides, cut 20 pieces 3.5"W x 5" L(10 for each side)
DO NOT CUT YOUR FRINGE YET!!!
Take 2 of your longer pieces, laying them on top of each other (this is for the double layer for a fuller look I mentioned) & position it on the CENTER of your shirt lengthwise. The top edge of piecing should align with the edge of your neckline.
Then sew down the center of your piecing. It should look like a little "flap".
Repeat this step 1/2" on each side of your attached CENTER piece with your remaining longer pieces. There should be 3 (double layer) rows of the longer pieces.
Then with the shorter pieces, continue by taking 2 shorter pieces, lay them on top of each other, position 1/2" away from the longer pieces working your way to the armhole of the shirt.
The top edge of piecing should align with the edge of your neckline.
Then sew down the center of your shorter piecing.
When all are attached, you will have 13 rows of "flaps" across the front of your shirt.
Sorry I did not take a photo of every step of this shirt...
This is what the back of the shirt will look like when you are all done sewing...
3 longer rows in the center
5 shorter rows on each side
NOW cut your "flap" pieces 1/2" wide to look like fringe. Do not cut all the way to the stitching line - I stopped about 1/4" from where the pieces were attached.
PS: I tried a shirt similar to this last year that was a total flop.
My Husband called it "The Lion King shirt".
I definitely like this version better!
